Another postal worker in New Orleans is indicted for allegedly throwing away pieces of mail.
Darius Patin, 33, was charged on November 12, in a one-count indictment for delay or destruction of mail. He is accused of throwing away over 1300 pieces of mail says the Department of Justice.
According to court documents, Patin was employed by the United States Postal Service as a city mail carrier and was assigned to work at Carrollton Station, in New Orleans.
The indictment alleges that on or about April 28, Patin tossed out approximately 1,377 pieces of mail that were recovered from a dumpster in an apartment complex.
Patin also unlawfully failed to deliver approximately nine First Class letters, eight standard letters, four standard flats, and two periodicals which were all found in his personal vehicle.
Patin is the second New Orleans Postal Worker to be accused of a felony crime for throwing away mail.
In November the DOJ announced the indictment of Sierra Hudson, a mail carrier in New Orleans also accused of throwing away or failing to deliver over 1700 pieces of mail found in a trash can and the trunk of her car.
