The St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office says a person is dead after a train hit them Wednesday night.
It happened shortly before 7:00pm.
"Deputies responded to a report of an individual on the railroad tracks behind the Comfort Inn in St. Rose who had been struck by an approaching train," Sgt. Jenni Barrette said in a news release. "The individual was pronounced dead at the scene."
She released no further detail.
It came just hours after a pedestrian was hit by a train in New Orleans.
In that case a man was on the tracks and was hit shortly after 9 a.m. as Amtrak's Sunset Limited was headed west from Union Passenger Terminal along the I-10.
