Louisiana Senator John Kennedy railed against what he considers to be censorship of conservative voices on social media during an appearance on WWL Radio.
Kennedy singled out Facebook, saying he and fellow Republicans believe the social media giant couches the removal of posts under the guise of “removal of misinformation.”

“Facebook isn’t a company. It’s a country,” Kennedy said. “And it’s bigger than most other countries. And it censors.”
Kennedy says his biggest issue is a lack of explanation when a post is removed.
“We don’t know how or why they censor,” Kennedy said. “We know they use algorithms. But there’s no transparency about who or why somebody gets censored and somebody else doesn’t.”
The Republican lawmaker offered up what he believes could be a solution.
“Set up a non-profit organization run by people that most of us would look at and say, ‘Yeah, they’re not political hacks. They’ll be fair.’ And let that group, that independent non-profit group decide what goes too far and publish the standards on which their decision will be made.”
Kennedy said he does believe there should be an uncrossable line when it comes to what is allowed to be posted. He believes incitements to violence should always be removed from social media.
“That’s not only wrong,” Kennedy said, “I’m sure it’s illegal.”
