Ponchatoula High School went into lockdown Tuesday after the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's office received an anonymous tip that "someone was on their way to the school with a gun."
The threat came in shortly before 11:30 a.m., the sheriff's office said. Deputies responded to the campus and have been there since.
The sheriff's office says while the school is safe and they have been unable to verify the threat, the school will remain in lockdown and deputies will remain on campus.
The sheriff's office said Martha Vinyard School nearby also went into lockdown as a precaution.
