The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating the explosion and fire that killed a woman and injured five other people Monday morning in Avondale.
A relative on the scene told WWL TV that the woman who died in the house was elderly.
"She was, might be in her 90s... for her to go this way, it hurt me in my heart," the victim's cousin said.
According to the sheriff's office, deputies were called to the scene of a single-vehicle crash shortly after 5 a.m. at a construction site in the 500 block of Avondale Garden Rd. There, they learned a cement truck ran over and ruptured a gas line.
About 90 minutes later, there was an explosion nearby. Deputies responded to find a mobile home engulfed in flames and three adults and two children suffering from fire-related injuries.
After the fire was put out, firefighters found the body of the elderly woman.
