LA 1 in Galliano is now open to traffic after a shooting investigation forced authorities to close the highway for several hours Friday morning.
According to Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre, deputies answered a call of shots fired in the area of West 194th Street around 6:30 a.m. Webre says when deputies arrived on scene, the suspect was still armed and engaged them in a standoff. Webre says the standoff was brief and that the suspect eventually laid down his guns and surrendered.
The shooting remains under investigation. Webre says he will release the suspect's name and charges later.
