A Slidell police officer was hospitalized this evening after crashing and flipping his police car as he chased a fleeing driver.
"Shortly before 6pm, Slidell Police were conducting an investigation and attempted to stop an orange Dodge Charger near Highway 11 and Interstate 12," Chief Administrative Officer Daniel Seuzeneau said in a news release. "The suspect vehicle failed to stop and fled from officers."
He says the chase led into Lacombe on Highway 190W.
"During the pursuit, a Slidell Police officer conducted an evasive maneuver in order to avoid striking another vehicle. In doing so, the officer overturned his police unit into a ditch and struck a culvert."
Seuzeneau says the suspect vehicle got away.
"Investigators have promising leads on the identity of the driver."
The officer was transported to Lakeview Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
"Slidell Police are asking anyone with information to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111. You can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward."
