Slidell Police say they have arrested a New Orleans man after allegedly carjacking a man at a Slidell gas station Thursday evening.

Shortly after 4:00pm, on Thursday, Slidell Police responded to a call of a carjacking at a Shell gas station in the 1800 block of Old Spanish Trail.

The victim told officers that he was attempting to pump gas into his Nissan Altima when a man, later identified as 31-year-old, Arsenio Wells, pointed a gun at the man and took his vehicle. Witnesses told police the vehicle got onto Interstate 10, towards New Orleans.

Officers say little did Wells know that the vehicle he carjacked had little to no fuel in it.

Slidell Police scrambled to quickly get to the other side of Lake Pontchartrain, knowing the vehicle didn’t have much fuel to make it very far.

An officer spotted Wells pumping fuel, in the stolen Nissan Altima, at a gas station on Bullard Avenue in New Orleans East.

When Wells spotted the officer, he fled in the stolen vehicle. He crashed a short while later on Read Boulevard, and fled on foot.

With help from the New Orleans Police Department and the Louisiana State Police, Wells was found an apprehended, without incident. No one was injured during the chase.

Wells was booked into the Slidell city jail, and is awaiting transport to the St. Tammany Parish Jail, where a bond will be set.

Slidell Police Chief Randy Fandal says, “Less than a week ago I gave a warning to criminals that we will stop short of nothing to maintain the quality of life in our city. This is yet, another example of that. If you prey on our citizens, we will chase you and we will catch you. Our officers did outstanding work today, but we couldn’t have done it without the support of NOPD and LSP. Today, the good guys won and another criminal has been taken off our streets.”
