Who will be the next Speaker of the House? Louisiana Republican Steve Scalise is already being mentioned as a possible replacement to the ousted Kevin McCarthy.
Steve Scalise supported Kevin McCarthy, but what's done is done. Could he be the next speaker? Political analyst Ron Faucheux says the next speaker will need to be able to appeal to moderate and far right Republicans.
"I think the next speaker would be somebody who has likely been a support of McCarthy, but who would be acceptable to the Matt Gaetz crowd," said Faucheux.
It was Scalise's ability to bridge the gap between the GOP's right and center that got him where he is now in the party's leadership, but Faucheux says Scalise would want to make sure he has the votes; otherwise, he could be putting his position as majority leader at risk.
"He's not going to risk losing that seat over taking a shot for the other seat," said Faucheux.
