Cops in St. Rose opened fire on an elderly man on Halloween night.
It started when the St. Charles Sheriff’s Office got a call of a man pointing a weapon at people.
“Deputies responded to reports of a suspicious individual walking around and pointing a shotgun at residents in the Charlestowne subdivision in St. Rose,” Sgt. Jenni Adolph said in a news release.
When they arrived, they found the armed 86-year-old man. The situation escalated.
“The deputies encountered the suspect near the intersection of W. Club Drive and River Birch Lane. They issued numerous verbal commands for him to drop his weapon, but he did not comply and, at one point, pointed the shotgun at the deputies,” Adolph detailed.
That’s when the police started shooting.
“In response to his actions, the deputies discharged their firearms, resulting in the individual falling to the ground.”
All of their bullets missed the target.
“They quickly approached the suspect to render aid and determined that he had not sustained any gunshot injuries.”
They arrested Herman Alexander and booked him with resisting an officer, aggravated assault upon a police officer, and aggravated assault with a firearm.
There was no word on the motive, but police had a previous interaction with Alexander.
“In May 2026, deputies were dispatched to his residence for an apparent mental health episode, after which he was transported to the hospital for evaluation.”
