Changes are coming to the St. Charles downtown loop route starting next week.
The RTA announced it is repaving the street and tracks in the downtown area. The construction project will run from Monday, October 18, and is scheduled to conclude in March 2022.
The RTA says “Construction will occur along both St. Charles Ave. and Carondelet St. from Canal St. to Poydras and from Julia St. to Howard Ave.”
The St. Charles streetcar line from Lee Circle to Canal Street will be shut down during construction while an RTA bus will shuttle passengers from Howard Ave. and St Charles Ave. up Howard Ave., along Loyola Ave., and down Canal Steet.

The road project will close one lane of traffic on both streets, which means that the lane of traffic that is typically shared with streetcars will have to remain closed and all motorists. Intersections will remain open.
