The St. Tammany Parish coroner identifies the man shot by officers responding to a stabbing incident late Sunday night.
Parish Coroner Charles Preston identified the man as 43-year-old Caleb McCree according to The Times-Picayune |New Orleans Advocate.
On Monday morning, Slidell Police and St. Tammany Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a stabbing incident at the Circle K on Airport Road where they encountered a man, later identified as McCree, stabbing a victim.
The officers responded with force after they say McCree refused to drop his weapon said Slidell Chief Randy Fandal at a news conference at the scene.
“The perpetrator came towards them with a knife or a box-cutter, and shots were fired. State Troopers were called in to aid in the investigation,” said Chief Fandal.
The suspect was fatally shot by the first responding officers a spokesperson for the Louisiana State Police said.
One person was stabbed in the incident and EMS transported that person to a local hospital.
