St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office deputies arrested a 12-year-old Abita Springs-area boy Monday on a misdemeanor charge of menacing.
Authorities say the child told a classmate he was going to "shoot up a school."
Authorities issued a summons and released the boy on a custodial agreement to appear in court.
"We will continue to take threats like this very seriously," said St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Randy Smith. "Parents, please talk to your children and explain the seriousness of making comments like this, even in a joking manner."
Deputies last week arrested a 13-year-old girl from the Madisonville area in a similar incident.
