“A call recently came out regarding a stray MISS PIGGY running loose off Dixie Ranch Rd. in Slidell… Definitely the SQUEELY type,” said a recent Facebook post from the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office.

According to authorities, moments after a photo was snapped with the pig, Deputy John Dugas dropped his “Bag O’Lettuce” and a there was a foot pursuit in the woods. Deputy Joey Schwindling also reportedly made a “sad attempt” to wrangle the swine.

“Praise Gawd our farm raised Deputy Katie Robbins was on scene and saved the day with her roping abilities,” said the sheriff’s department.

Since the department was not able to locate the owners of the pig, it was brought to to the St.
Tammany Parish Department of Animal Services. There, she met four other escape pigs.

“If these are your pigs (the squeely ones… NOT US) please go get your critters by showing proof of ownership,” said the Facebook post.

It did not identify the pig as a feral hog. According to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, feral hogs are found in all 64 parishes in the state, where an estimated 700,000 feral hogs roam free. These hogs can have a negative impact on the environment and other wildlife.
