The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's office has fired and arrested one of its deputies.
According to the sheriff, 30-year-old Joshua Schiro, a patrol deputy, was fired after an internal investigation of a workplace sexual harassment complaint.
Further investigation by the sheriff's Major Crime Unit led to Schiro's arrest on charges of sexual battery and obscenity.
The sheriff's office did not provide details on the alleged crimes.
"Upon being made aware of this incident, we began investigating both for policy and criminal violations," said St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Randy Smith. "I hold our employees to the highest standards of conduct and when we receive a report that one of our deputies acted inappropriately, we thoroughly investigate to identify any violations of policy and/or law."
