Interim St. Tammany Sheriff Bret Ibert introduced himself to the public today, and talked about how he plans to use his time in office to help restore public trust in a department that saw its last two sheriff's become convicted felons.
"Through open communication and dialog," he said. "Making myself available. I welcome community input."
Ibert says he has served in the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's office for 30 years.
"I love this agency," Ibert continued. "I just feel like my calling right now is to make sure this agency transitions to the next sheriff."
Voters will pick the next sheriff in a special election in November.
