State troopers are now patrolling the streets of New Orleans.
Louisiana State Police officials announced this week that members of the new permanent Troop NOLA have been deployed since January. Our partners at WWL-TV report that LSP superintendent Col. Robert Hodges says more troopers will arrive in the coming months.
Hodges would not say how many state troopers are in the city, claimng that he didn't want to "show the enemy (his) battle plan." However, state police officials say Troop NOLA troopers have been working with the NOPD's violent crime section.
Louisiana lawmakers appropriated funding for Troop NOLA during the special crime session that ended Thursday. Hodges hopes lawmakers will provide even more money for the new troop during the regular session that's set to begin in April.
