The city of New Orleans could avoid a "recovery district" that supplants the Sewerage & Water Board of New Orleans yet, according to the man who led Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry's task force on the matter.
"I don't think it's top of everybody's minds," Paul Rainwater told WWL's Newell Normand.
Rainwater said he believes the governor is open to giving the city a chance to fix issues at the Sewerage & Water Board before having lawmakers step in.
The Sewerage & Water Board was created by an act of the state legislature, and it would take legislative action to set up any replacement.
"We've talked to a number of legislators," Rainwater said. "They're willing to memorialize that in legislation."
