Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office deputies say a driver fleeing in a stolen vehicle led them on a chase into Old Metairie this morning.
The chase ended when the driver crashed the vehicle on Hesper Ave. near Metairie Rd.
Sheriff Joe Lopinto told WWL's Tommy Tucker that a stolen vehicle that had been picked up on their automated license plate readers got their attention, and the driver attempted to flee. After the crash, Lopinto says the suspect tried to get out and run.
"We set up a pretty quick perimeter and were able to catch him, probably within about ten minutes, underneath a house somewhere in that immediate area," said Lopinto.
The sheriff said the suspect will be facing a lot of charges.
"Right now, it looks like he's probably on probation, in a stolen vehicle," said Lopinto. "It looks like they recovered a gun out of the car and he had some possible narcotics also in the car."
Lopinto also said a woman and three children were with the suspect in the vehicle at the time of the chase.
