The public will have a chance to weigh in on an Army Corps of Engineers study on ways to reduce flooding in St Tammany Parish including building a levee and sea wall.
The goal of the St. Tammany Parish Louisiana Feasibility Study is to reduce the severity of flood damages on the Northshore.
The Tentatively Selected Plan identified in the draft report consists of approximately 14 miles of levees and two miles of the floodwall in the Northshore area.
Major communities in the study area include Slidell, Mandeville, Covington, Abita Springs, Pearl River and Madisonville.
A Corps of Engineers report says, “The study area is located along the border with the state of Mississippi, with the Pearl River along the eastern boundary of the parish. Lake Pontchartrain serves as the southern border and is one of the largest estuaries in the United States and the site of the Southeastern Louisiana National Wildlife Refuge Complex Headquarters in Lacombe. Tangipahoa Parish is located along the western boundary, and Washington Parish is located to the north.”
Residents will be able to attend the virtual meeting via WebEx and simultaneously streamed on the district’s Facebook page on:
