A man is dead after gunfire Sunday evening in the Warehouse District in New Orleans.
"The NOPD is investigating a homicide that occurred in the 700 block of Tchoupitoulas Street in the 8th District," Public Relations Specialist Karen Boudrie said in an email.
It happened just after 6:30pm.
"Initial reports show a man was fatally shot and was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS."
Boudrie didn't release any further details.
Witnesses say it happened outside the Renaissance Hotel.
The owner of Legacy Craft Kitchen told Nola.com that the restaurant was full when bullets started hitting the windows facing Tchoupitoulas Street. Daniel "Becket" Becnel said he counted at least five bullet holes in the windows.
There were no reports of anyone injured at the restaurant.
The victim was found dead just feet away.
An NOPD news release says, "Upon arrival, officers found a 24-year-old male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. EMS arrived and pronounced the victim deceased. Investigators say the victim was outside when he was approached by an unknown subject who shot him multiple times and then fled. Initial reports indicate the victim was the intended target of the shooting."
