Super Bowl Week begins in New Orleans in 6 months

We are six months away from Super Bowl Week! The local host committee is putting out the call for volunteers.

"Super Bowls are what we do here in New Orleans," said Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation President and CEO Jay Cicero. He told WWL's Newell Normand that means amassing an army of volunteers.

"We need several thousand volunteers, or 'ambassadors,' as we're calling them, to serve as the greeters and informational sources and to be New Orleanians!" said Cicero, "to do what we do best and welcome people and invite people to go to our favorite residents and place to have maybe a cocktail. That's the biggest way for the general public and listeners to get involved."

The game is more than just free advertising for the city to a world audience. Marcus Brown, co-chair of the host committee, says there are also $3 million in grants available for community programs to benefit metropolitan New Orleans.

"We're focused on youth development, workforce training, education, health and wellness, and equity/inclusion," Brown said.

Brown said the grants range from $25,000 to $250,000. It's made possible by a $1.5 million donation from the NFL that was matched by local businesses.
