It's a day that almost outshines Black Friday for in-store Christmas shopping.
Super Saturday falls this year on Saturday the 23rd, just two days before the big holiday of gift giving and receiving.
Dan Rice, Associate Professor of Marketing at LSU, says Super Saturday "Gives us an extra weekend of shopping essentially."
He says, "That can be good if you're doing last minute shopping and also good for retailers because it gives them the chance to get people who may not be working on the weekend to come in and spend some of those hard earned dollars."
Rice says growth in online and brick and mortar stores has panned out to expectations from experts, up three to four percent.
But, as far as Super Saturday is concerned, Rice says, "Typically the second biggest shopping day of the year for in-store traffic in the U.S. is actually the Super Saturday, the last Saturday before Christmas.
He says in the U.K. Super Saturday is actually bigger than Black Friday, which is not the case here in the U.S.
So why is Super Saturday so super?
Rice says, "It's typically a big day for retailers because people realize that there time to get the gifts in time is starting to run out and you do find an influx of people trying to beat that deadline."
And if you're still looking for some good sales as the shopping days wane prior to Christmas, Rice says that should be the case given that retailers don't want to be left with items that they'll have to holdover in their inventory.
