Superdome roof returning to gleaming white

Among the many spruce-ups you can see happening around the city as New Orleans prepares to host Super Bowl LIX, is the cleaning up of the Superdome roof.

With a couple of major highways passing by the west and south sides of the Superdome, a lot of grime ends up settling on its white roof. But anyone driving by lately may have noticed the workers spread across that surface, busy with their pressure washers.

"You can't drive by the Superdome without seeing what's going on out there on that 9.6-acre roof," said Doug Thornton, Vice President of ASM Global, the company that manages the stadium.

Thornton says they do this periodically, and with some big events coming up, Thornton told Louisiana Stadium and Exposition District Chairman Robert Vosbein, Jr. that this job is set to be finished no later than Saturday.

"We do this pressure washing every two years or so and this is part of what we just talked about, Mr. Chairman, and that is getting the city and the building ready for Super Bowl," said Thornton.

The cleaning should be done as the city fills with fans for this weekend's Bayou Classic, followed by the Sugar Bowl on New Year's Day, and then Super Bowl LIX on February 9.
