The Superdome is pausing its renovation work to get ready to host Essence Fest starting next week. The stadium is still in the midst of a multi-year renovation plan to ready the stadium for hosting Super Bowl LIX in 2025.
"So we've definitely transitioned from construction activity to getting back into even activities," said Superdome General Manager Evan Holmes.
Holmes says the building is the messiest he has ever seen.
"It's pretty much a consensus that the building has never been that dirty," he said. "Dirt and dust and concrete, whatever it is, everywhere."
Holmes says there are people everywhere giving the dome a deep clean.
Essence Fest begins June 29, and the dome is set to host the Monster Jam monster truck rally on July 8. The Saints first preseason game is August 13, seven weeks from this Sunday.
