The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office says a 21-year-old man shot and killed his mother at a Metairie apartment complex Wednesday morning.
The sheriff's office says deputies were called to the 6200 block of Riverside Drive around 8:30 a.m.
A woman was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Paramedics took the woman to the hospital where she died a short time later.
Not long after the shooting, deputies say Nakee Collins got into a crash with another vehicle, nearby at Power Blvd. and I-10.
The sheriff's office says investigators determined he was connected to the crime, and took him to the JPSO Investigations Bureau as part of the investigation, then later booked Collins into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center on one count of second degree murder.
