The New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board is moving forward with plans to keep the public better informed about pump status.
Kind of like how Entergy has a web site that will show a map of where power outages are, the Sewerage and Water Board is preparing to roll out an online dashboard of pumping status.
"Our intent is to put out a tool that shows color-coded dots," said Steve Nelson, Deputy General Superintendent of the Sewerage and Water Board. "Either the pump station is running, or it is not."
Nelson says the dashboard will answer one of the most common questions of New Orleanians during heavy rain -- "are the pumps on?"
He says it will present real-time data showing which pumps are online, which are down, which have power available, and which don't along with what neighborhoods they drain.
"By the end of next week, a page will be available to the public to review," said Nelson.
