As severe weather approaches the New Orleans area, concerns about the Sewerage and Water Board's drainage pumps are at the front of the minds of the city's residents. However, SWB officials say their pumps should keep the city from flooding during Monday's heavy weather.
According to our partners at NOLA.com, SWB officials say the city's pumps have just enough power to operate amid the expected deluge. The utility's online dashboard says as of Monday morning, the SWB has 45.5 megawatts of the power its needs to supply those pumps. That's just enough, officials say, to run the system of older pumps at full capacity.
Meanwhile, Turbine 4 remains out of service at least through the end of January. Turbine 5, which is even older than the decades-old Turbine 4, recently returned to service after being repaired.
