Tangipahoa Parish Prison to be featured on Discovery Channel

Tonight, The Discovery Channel will air “120 Hours: Behind Bars” featuring a deep look at the Tangipahoa Parish Jail. The show aims to give viewers a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the inner workings of the prison as it has been undergoing a turnaround. Some may be surprised that cameras will be allowed inside the prison, as the jail was previously known for a series of troubles including escapes and being understaffed.

Tangipahoa Sheriff Gerald Sticker says he welcomes the transparency and a chance to showcase the improvements that have been made under his tenure. “When they tune in, they’ll be able to see unedited and unscripted interviews with employees and inmates. They’ll get to see inside the living areas of the jail and it’s for the sole purpose of pulling the curtain back. I’ve been transparent since day one and this is the latest effort,” noted Sheriff Sticker.

The Sheriff says he wants viewers to see the state of the prison “warts and all” as the Discovery Channel’s cameras peel back the curtain to give audiences an inside glimpse. “You’re going to see situations where there are inmates sleeping on floors, some dirt and filth, and those are things that we have fought since day one to correct,” Sticker added.

The one-hour-long documentary promises to guide audiences through local efforts to reform the crumbling prison that has long been plagued by problems. “120 Hours Behind Bars” regularly features America’s toughest prison systems. The latest episode featuring the Tangipahoa Parish Jail airs Monday night, July 20th at 8 pm on The Discovery Channel.
