Is it too early to start a countdown clock for Taylor Swift bringing her Eras tour to New Orleans? Even with her concerts here in New Orleans still more than a year away, officials are anticipating the boost it brings.
"It's a destination show," said Doug Thornton, Vice-President of ASM Global in New Orleans, the company that manages the Superdome. "Every city that has hosted Taylor Swift sees an influx of travelers. The hotels are sold out."
Thornton said he was at her concert in Minneapolis, and stadium officials there likened it to hosting a sports championship event.
"In Minneapolis, when she played there, they equated it to a Final Four weekend," said Thornton. "That will be a phenomenal weekend for New Orleans."
When the Twin Cities hosted the Men's Final Four in 2019, it had an economic impact of $143 million, according to local organizers.
Swift sold out three shows at the Superdome set for October 2024. Thornton says New Orleans can expect sold out hotels as the city fills with Swifties.
