An 18-year-old driver had to be rescued from Lake Pontchartrain after his car careened into the water last night.
An Orleans Levee District Police officer says he watched as the car sped through an intersection, hit a concrete barrier, and went airborne, coming down in the lake. It happened shortly after 7 p.m. Thursday.
"The officer grabbed his flotation device and threw it to the victim," according to the Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority - East.
"The 18-year-old claims his brake light came on as he approached the intersection and the malfunction caused him to lose control of the vehicle."
Authorities pulled the car from the lake this morning.
