Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joseph Lopinto says his office is investigating a homicide that happened Monday morning in Marrero.

According to JPSO spokesperson, Captain Jason Rivarde, “At around 7:30 am, deputies were dispatched to a shooting in the 1800 block of Betty St. They located a juvenile male suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene.”

Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joe Lopinto says the unidentified teen was a student at John Ehret High School who was walking to a bus stop when he was gunned down.

Eyewitnesses accounts led responding deputies to a foot chase with one female and three males until they got into a vehicle and drove off. Deputies eventually found and stopped the vehicle on Lapalco Boulevard. The four individuals inside the vehicle are in custody.

Sheriff Lopinto says deputies spotted a rifle inside the vehicle which they say matches witness descriptions of the type of gun used in the shooting.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call JPSO Homicide Section at 504-364-5300 or contact Crimestoppers.
