It's termite time!
"We are right around the peak time of the Formosan subterranean termite swarm season," said LSU Ag Center termite expert Dr. Aaron Ashbrook.
Dr. Ashbrook says Mother's Day is typically when the season peaks, although he says we still have a few weeks of this to go.
"So we should anticipate that the termites will continue to swarm around early June time," he explained.
Dr. Ashbrook says the swarming bugs outside shouldn't be a major concern -- swarming is not how termites bore their way into a home.
"Now where you do want to be concerned is it you are finding termites that are actually swarming in your house," he said. "If you find just a few that have just managed to enter the home from the outside, that's not as much of a concern, but again, if you are finding them emerging from an area and actively swarming in your home, then we have a concern."
That's when Dr. Ashbrook says it's time to get with an exterminator to come up with an eradication strategy.
