Records show a woman stole money from an old campaign account belonging to Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser.

She used the nearly $60,000 to buy a Tesla, according to investigators.

"Anyone that breaks the law needs to go face the charges in court," Nungesser told the broadcaster who broke the story.

The story begins in 2020 with Nungesser’s wife filing a criminal complaint in Plaquemines Parish alleging Kimberly Weber of stealing money from the account.

"That was an old campaign account that had no activity - I believe she was in Houston and made a check for the account, and we had bought bumper stickers and signs from her - so she had gotten a check from us way back when," Nungesser said.

Weber is accused, in court records, of altering the campaign account check to lay her hands on the money in the account.

An investigator told the broadcaster, “The account and routing number to Billy Nungesser's campaign fund account was on the bottom of all fraudulent checks."

The complaint goes on state Weber allegedly bought a Tesla with money stolen from the account and paid for through a Pay-Pal Account.

"I just can't believe the bank let them buy a car with a check that's made up - without verifying - especially from a campaign account," Nungesser said.

The case is being handled by a St. Bernard Parish special prosecutor as, given Nungesser’s position as Lt. Governor and former Plaquemines President, the Attorney General and Plaquemines District Attorney have recused their offices.

An active arrest warrant is out for Weber, and investigators are on the lookout for her.
