Three arrested in St. Tammany jail drug smuggling scheme

Suboxone
St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office

Three people are in the St. Tammany Parish Jail after sheriff's deputies say they smuggled $16,000 worth of drugs into the parish jail last week.

Joshua Martin, Samantha Martin Rotherham, and Lisa Lloyd are all facing felony charges related to the case. Deputies say court bailiffs caught Martin, who was already an inmate in the jail, trying to smuggle suboxone into the facility. Investigators say evidence later led them to a home in Covington, where they discovered several opened and discarded packs of suboxone. That led to the arrests of Rotherham and Lloyd.

Suboxone is a drug used to treat opioid dependency but can be abused and overused.

Authorities did not say if bond has been set for the three suspects.
