Three carjackings in 24-hours, NOPD investigates

The New Orleans Police Department reports three carjackings in New Orleans in a 24-hour period. One of the incidents was an attempted carjacking, after the suspect tried to take a car that had broken down.

The first carjacking happened Thursday at 3:44 pm in the 1800 block Spain Street.


An NOPD report says the victim was checking under the hood of her vehicle when the suspect approached her and offered to help.

The victim declined but police say the suspect struck her in the face and attempted to take vehicle but was unsuccessful due to mechanical issues. The suspect then fled.

Then at midnight another carjacking happened. This time in the 900 block of Common Street.

Police say unknown men approached the victim. Police say the men grabbed their waistbands, implying they were armed and demanded victim exit vehicle. The victim complied and the men fled in the victim's gray Kia Forte with Louisiana license plate 287DLH.

Less than four hours later, a carjacking happened in the 4200 block North Rampart St.

Police say the victim exiting his vehicle when four male suspects pulled up in vehicle, exited and approached the victim’s vehicle. Police say the men physical assaulted the victim by dragging him out of his vehicle. They then fled in the victim’s vehicle.
