An overnight fire spread through a pair of buildings in New Orleans early this morning.
"The New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) was dispatched to a call reporting a fire in the 200 block of N. Norman C. Francis Pkwy.," Captain Edwin Holmes wrote.
He says firefighters got there to find flames already tearing through a second structure in Mid-City.
"NOFD Fire Operations personnel arrived on the scene at 2:21 a.m., finding two very large, muti-unit, two-story dwellings (4-plex at 216 North N.C. Francis & 3-plex at 224 North N.C. Francis) already heavily involved."
Holmes says they needed extra help to keep the blaze from consuming more buildings.
"A third alarm was eventually requested at 2:48 a.m., as this large fire started to show the potential of extending to an occupied dwelling at 214 N. Norman C. Francis and three commercial buildings in the 3300 block of Bienville St."
It took 52 NOFD personnel to finally get the fire under control around 5:15am.
"Three residents were treated by New Orleans Emergency Medical Services (NOEMS) and transported for further observation. Two adult females for smoke inhalation and an adult male for smoke inhalation and burns to his back suffered while re-entering 224 N. Norman C. Francis to successfully rescue his dog."
The American Red Cross is working to help fifteen residents displaced by the blaze.
"There were no firefighter injuries reported, and the cause of the fire is being investigated."
