Tidwell: the path to enjoying festivals, sporting events is through vaccines

New Orleans leaders are working to give people more incentive to get vaccinated.

“We are at the light at the end of the tunnel but to get that final leg we have to get vaccinated,” said New Orleans spokesperson Beau Tidwell at his Tuesday media briefing.

Tidwell stressed if people want to enjoy fall festivals such as Jazz Fest, and French Quarter Fest, or even sporting events, they have to get the shot.

“The way that we get back to the way we want to where we want to be, we are hoping to see a busy October… the Saints are coming back…if people want a hundred percent seating in the stadium, the way we get there is through vaccines,” said Tidwell.

Tidwell says vaccinations will also determine how late bars can stay open and serve alcohol.

The city continues to lead the state with nearly 42% of New Orleanians getting at least one vaccine shot.
