Numerous reports of a tornado touching down in parts of New Orleans followed a tornado warning Tuesday evening.
The alert early in the 7 o'clock hour warned of a thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado over the Westbank, moving north-northeast. Minutes later, images from St. Bernard Parish showed the funnel on the ground.
Damage was also reported in New Orleans' Lower Ninth Ward.
Across the lake, a tornado was confirmed in part of St. Tammany Parish.
Entergy reports power out for more than 15,000 customers in New Orleans, and in Jefferson and St. Bernard parishes.
