Operations at Touro Hospital are back to normal after a two-alarm kitchen fire forced hospital officials to evacuate dozens of patients on Saturday, including 14 NICU babies.
That fire began around 2 p.m. Saturday in the hospital's kitchen. New Orleans firefighters contained the blaze to the ventilation system. Twenty-seven babies in the pediatric ward, including the 14 in neonatal intensive care, where transferred to other hospitals out of an abundance of caution.
Nobody was injured. Normal hospital operations resumed around 8 p.m.
Hospital officials say dining services at the facility will be closed until further notice because of the fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
