Troop NOLA arrests suspects in ATV 'street takeovers'

Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry today held a news conference about fighting crime in New Orleans.

"We intend to work to make sure that the streets of the city of New Orleans are safe," the governor told the media.

Landry says the new Louisiana State Police Troop NOLA is making a difference.

Major Donovan Archote says they have launched a new campaign targeting people riding ATV's and dirtbikes on city streets.

"They didn't discriminate where they were committing these crimes," the Troop NOLA commander said. "They were Uptown, Downtown, throughout New Orleans East, Lakeview, Mid City and the Ninth Ward."

State Police say those activities were often linked to other crimes throughout the city.

Archote says troopers secured arrest warrants and search warrants for residences in St. Bernard Parish, St. James Parish, and East Baton Rouge Parish... who were allegedly involved in what he called "street takeovers" with the offroad vehicles.

He reported that they recovered stolen vehicles, guns and drugs. None of the suspects live in New Orleans.

According to the St. James Parish Sheriff's Office's inmate roster, Ken Joseph Tureaud, Jr., Marjoe Holmes, Jr., and Luke John Campo were all arrested and booked for conspiracy to commit aggravated obstruction of a highway of commerce. Tureaud also faces a misdemeanor charge of unlawful posting of criminal activity for notoriety and publicity. The three are being held without bond on fugitive warrants.
