Troop NOLA can tout being the reason auto thefts are down %47 year to date in the city.
Colonel Robert Hodges, Louisiana State Police Superintendent says the special team made up of state troopers has made great strides thus far and, overall, residents report feeling safer.
He says the team adds more than just bodies on the street, but also much needed resources. This is made evident by the drop in auto thefts at %47 year-to-date.
"In conjunction with our statewide auto theft unit, we continue to use modern technology, and our fusion center in Baton Rouge."
The Superintendent says that what they have done so far is notable, but the team has plans to make a more substantial impact as soon as all of the necessary pieces are in place.
"Starting October we'll have a law enforcement only class. This allows for a shorter class of candidates from across the state who already have minimum qualifications to join.
We're confident when that class gradates in January, just in time for Super Bowl, we'll have all the positions filled in Troop NOLA so we can have the results everyone is asking about."
