Tropical Depression Four forms off South Carolina coast

A new Tropical Depression forms off the South Carolina coast. Communities in on the Carolina coast are under a tropical storm warning.

The National Hurricane Center says Tropical Depression 4 is about 100 miles East-Southeast of Charleston.

Maximum sustained winds are 35 mph and moving at a speed of 16 mph.

According to the National Hurricane Center, “The depression is moving toward the west-northwest near 16 mph and this general motion is expected to continue for the next couple of days. On the forecast track, the center of the tropical cyclone should make landfall along the coast of South Carolina in the warning area later this evening. Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph with higher gusts. Some slight strengthening is expected today, and the depression is forecast to become a tropical storm before it makes landfall. Rapid weakening is forecast after landfall occurs.”
