The National Hurricane Center has upgraded the tropical storm watch in Louisiana to a tropical storm warning.
The warning extends from Morgan City to the Louisiana/Texas line.
"While the system is fairly close to transitioning into a tropical depression, it is still a bit shy of a well-defined center," said National Hurricane Center senior hurricane specialist Eric Blake.
"The center should move far enough offshore on Wednesday for some intensification to occur due to a combination of warm Gulf waters and upper-level jet dynamics," Blake continued. "Most of the guidance show the system becoming a tropical storm tomorrow."
If it becomes a tropical storm, it would be the first named storm of the season, and would be Tropical Storm Arthur.
