Get ready for downpours.
"A wetter pattern is expected early this week as a weak front stalls near the region and tropical moisture streams north from the Gulf," WWL TV Meteorologist Payton Malone forecasts.
He says the rain will increase as we get into the early part of the work week.
"Scattered showers and thunderstorms will become more numerous Monday, with Tuesday looking like the wettest day. Heavy downpours and localized flooding will be possible, especially north of the coast where rainfall totals could reach 2 to 4 inches through midweek."
Malone says the tropical moisture is coming from a system that is not expected to develop significantly, but will be messy.
"The exact track of a broad area of low pressure near the Texas coast remains uncertain. Some forecast models bring the deepest moisture into Louisiana by Wednesday and Thursday, while others keep it focused farther west over Texas. Either way, periods of heavy rain appear likely through the middle of the week."
The chance of formation is near 0% over the next 48 hours and 20% over the next 7 days.
"Regardless of development, moisture from this system will help bring a wetter pattern to the Gulf South this week. Heavy downpours will be possible across Southeast Louisiana and South Mississippi, and some could lead to isolated street flooding."
