Jason Wachs was one of the best college players in Louisiana in 2026. In 2027, he'll swap out green for the Purple and Gold.
Wachs committed to LSU on Sunday morning, choosing the Tigers over Florida, Florida State, and Miami. Texas and Tennessee also reportedly expressed interest.
Wachs played primarily right field for Tulane in 2026, but could be an option to replace Derek Curiel in center field.
The native of Pembroke Pines, Florida, gives LSU another left-handed bat in the lineup. Notre Dame transfer Bino Watters, Mason Braun, Jack Ruckert, and switch-hitter Steven Milam also hit from the left side.
Wachs has been a very good hitter since arriving at Tulane. He was named to the American Conference All-Freshman Team in 2025 after hitting .335 with 2 home runs and 25 RBIs.
Wachs had a sensational sophomore season, adding power to his toolbox. The first-team All-American hit .327 with 9 home runs and 54 RBIs, while also logging 21 doubles in 2026. He struck out just 38 times in 202 at-bats.
Wach is likely the Tigers' last position player addition through the transfer portal, and his presence provides a clearer picture of what LSU’s lineup might look like in 2027.
- C/DH Cade Arrambide and Omar Serna
- 3B Dawson Park
- SS Steven Milam
- 2B Cade Kurland
- 1B Mason Braun
- LF Bino Watters
- CF Jason Wachs
- RF William Patrick
There’s a chance Braun could end up in a corner outfield position, and there will be freshmen pushing for playing time.
The lone transfer addition to the pitching staff so far is Gonzaga right-hander Landon Hood. Will there be one or two more?
In a recent interview with WBRZ-TV sports director Michael Cauble, LSU head coach Jay Johnson expressed his excitement about developing many of the pitchers that struggled in 2026.
“There’s plenty of in-house pitcher talent that can and will perform better than they did this season,” Johnson said. “I think we have a good pathway to that.”
Johnson specifically mentioned Casan Evans, William Schmidt, Cooper Moore and Marcos Paz.
The head coach added that the key to improving the pitching is better defense, and it looks like the additions this offseason and the return of Milam should result in fewer errors and more plays made in the field next season.
