Former President Donald Trump isn't one to mince words, but when it came to describing a certain Louisiana senator, he was, most would agree, harsh.
Trump called Sen. Bill Cassidy “one of the worst senators in the United States Senate.”
His ire stems from Cassidy's vote to convict him at his 2021 impeachment trial for his role in the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol Building. He was one of seven in the GOP who broke ranks.
He's clearly not over it.
“A TOTAL FLAKE, Republican though he may be,” the presumptive GOP nominee for president wrote on Truth Social.
And he wasn't done, even going so far as to refer to Cassidy as a 'lamebrain.'
"When the Democrats' Impeachment Hoax started, this Lamebrain Senator actually voted against me," he added. "He thought it was so 'cool,' until he got home, and was literally pelted with everything that could be used for such an inglorious happening, especially words, with lots of foul language thrown in."
Cassidy did not directly respond although he earlier warned Republicans that Trump "cannot win a general election" and urged him to drop out of the 2024 race. Cassidy's position is that Trump's legal woes were a liability and described his federal classified-documents case as "almost a slam dunk" for the prosecution.
