Two carjackings in 20 minutes in New Orleans Sunday, then an attempted carjacking

NOPD

From just before 7:00pm to around 7:15pm, there were two carjackings in New Orleans Sunday night. In once case the suspects shot at the victim.

The first was reported at 6:55pm at Saint Ferdinand Street and Dauphine Street.

A 62-year-old woman told police an armed man approached her and demanded her keys.

"Victim dropped her purse, which contained her keys and ran. Suspect fired one shot toward victim," according to an initial NOPD report.

It says three suspects then fled in the victim's silver Toyota Camry.

A few minutes later in the 5000 block Kim Drive, a 55-year-old man was carjacked.

"Four unknown black males... approached victim inside his vehicle and demanded his car keys and for victim to exit vehicle. Victim complied. Suspects took victim’s vehicle and fled."

Shortly after 9:00pm, there was an attempted carjacking in the 4900 block Arthur Drive.

"Victim sitting inside his vehicle when approached by suspect armed with handgun. Suspect searched victim and victim’s vehicle, took money and handgun and fled."

The initial report did not indicate why the suspects, who police say attempted to carjack the victim, fled without the car.
