The New Orleans Fire Department battled a two-alarm fire at a vacant house early Monday morning in the 5700 block of Dauphine Street.
They say a neighbor was awakened by the smell of smoke and saw the fire. They quickly got to safety and called firefighters as the fire spread to his home
The home where the fire started was vacant with no utilities connected. No one was hurt but firefighters say six cats were inside the neighbor's home which also caught fire. Two cats died in that fire. The cause of the fire to the vacant home is under investigation.
