Just hours after a 57-year-old man was shot and killed in Uptown New Orleans, police responded to two other separate shootings that landed two men and a woman in area hospitals. One of those shootings, police say, involved a suspect who fired what police say was an assault rifle.
The first of those shootings happened around 9:20 p.m. Saturday in New Orleans East. According to NOPD investigators, a woman was shot at a location on Hayne Boulevard near Sheephead Street. Police say the victim and the suspect were riding together in a car when they began arguing. The man pulled a gun and shot the woman in the head. The suspect then ran away from the scene. An EMS crew took the victim to a hospital. Her condition was not disclosed.
The second shooting happened around 2:40 a.m. Sunday in Algiers. Police say that shooting took place on Lauradale Drive just off General Meyer Avenue. According to the NOPD's major offense log, the first victim was asleep inside his home when someone fired multiple shots from an assault rifle. That victim realized he was shot and drove himself to a hospital. Police say the second victim was driving down Lauradale Drive when the shots rang out. One of the bullets hit that man, who also drove himself to a hospital. According to the MOL, the suspect in this case is an unknown Black male with short dreadlocks.
Police have made no arrests in either case.
